Castle Hill Blog 29/11/24
I am extremely proud that our school continuously strives to provide exciting experiences for our young people. Last week many of our Year 10 pupils who study drama were able to enjoy a well loved west end musical: Blood Brothers, at the Palace theatre in Manchester. The pupils were captivated from start to finish!
Talent in Tune
Our Sixth Form curriculum offer is centralised around preparing our young people to be 'work ready'.
Each Wednesday, the Sixth Form students attend work experience placements. Demi has begun a piano tuning course with an experienced piano tuner, Tim Lauder, who has experience teaching people who are blind. Tim has been impressed with Demi’s musicality and her ability to listen to the sounds and vibrations needed to understand how a piano needs adjusting to be on top form. Demi will take small tests as she moves through the course to check her progress and to make sure she can perform at speed!
The beginning of the course involved learning the parts of the piano that needed taking apart to reveal the body of the piano where the work takes place. There are special tools that Demi is learning to use and specialist techniques she is learning to make sure she takes extra care. There has only been one broken string so far!
Demi says she really enjoys the piano tuning course and she continues to make good progress each week.
This photograph shows her using tools to tune a grand piano.
Christmas Fayre
Don't forget to join us for arguably the most exciting event of the year. If you aren't feeling festive yet, you soon will be! Once you have become immersed in the delicious smells of freshly baked cakes, popcorn and candyfloss and bagged yourself a bargain or three from one of our many marvellous stalls, you're sure to be feeling very jolly indeed. We know that some of you really love to get involved in supporting our lovely school, therefore if you feel like you could help to run a stall we really would appreciate it. Please email our fundraising lead Laura Agnew for more information. laura.agnew@castlehill.stockport.sch.uk

And Finally...
Our whole staff team have benefitted from anti-racism training today delivered by Stockport's Ethnic Diversity Service. We have been encouraged to think about our own culture, values and beliefs and consider how these may have a negative impact on others. We have considered terms that have historically been used to describe or define a person and how their real definitions could be really hurtful and offensive. We have thought about how we can be more than not racist and how we must be anti-racist ensuring that we challenge and question hate. We know that as a team we cannot possibly learn everything that we need to in one single day. This is a journey of discovery and education, I do hope that you will join us...
Have a great weekend!
