Castle Hill High School

Castle Hill Blog 19/01/24

Friday has arrived again and we have all had another joyous week here at Castle Hill. This afternoon I was treated to a hilarious re-enactment of Henry the 8'ths turbulent reign and then I went on to read the makings of a fantastic novel authored by one of our Year 9 pupils.

Fun in the Snow!

I appreciate for many that the snowy and icy weather can be an irritating inconvenience, however the pupils had SO much fun playing in the snow as did the staff!!

SOLAR UPDATE

You should all have now received your child's SOLAR progress report for last term. I am aware that there have been a couple of frequently asked questions:

Q1. Why does there appear to be a discrepancy in the progress reported in my child's last report in comparison to this one?

SOLAR is a bespoke assessment system which has been tailored to specifically target the complex learning needs of our pupils. There were some essential final tweaks which were made to the assessment frameworks which will have affected some pupils' progress targets and reported outcomes. There are no plans to make further changes, so an accurate comparison will be possible when the next round of reports are distributed at the start of the summer term.

Q2. Why are the outcomes reported differently on the EHCP review reports?

The level provided at your child's EHCP review is an annual level which is reporting on progress made across an entire year. The SOLAR reports are based on termly progress.

Children's Mental Health WeekChildren's Mental Health week Logo

We will be celebrating Children's Mental Health Week in school from Monday 5th February to Friday 9th February.  There will be an assembly to introduce the week and some discussion provoking activities for pupils to be involved with during form times.  On Friday 9th February (last day of half term) we will be having an 'Express Yourself' day where pupils are encouraged to dress as the thing that makes them unique.  Whether that is a skateboarder, a dancer, football player, wearing your favourite colour, or simply coming as yourself.
We are asking for a donation of £2 to go towards the charity Place2Be who support lots of young people with their mental health.

Fine Art

There really is an abundance of talented artists in our school. As I was proudly showing a visitor round earlier this week Leah Cairns in Year 11 was busy creating this masterpiece!
