Castle Hill High School

Castle Hill Blog 17/01/25

What a fantastic week it has been here at Castle Hill. Thankfully the sun has certainly had its hat on for the most part and the pupils have thoroughly enjoyed being able to enjoy the outside spaces. We were treated to a rousing bagpipe performance from Demi-Lea at break-time today and some of the Year 7s joined me for a sing along and a dance. We also saw the return of the infamous lunch-time 'Sing and Sign' club organised and led by Dani Austin and Sue Cooper. Earlier in the week Shay Worswick in Year 8 brought me a freshly baked slice of his Victoria sponge cake-I am convinced he will be a world class chef in his later years; it really was delicious!

Spectacular Self-Portraits!

7M took a photograph of themselves, and tried to sketch/colour in the other half of their faces. They first tried sketching in pencil, and then coloured the other side in felt tip. Look at these brilliant drawings.

Sensory Story

Our sensory story in Hub H this week was, ‘Down in the Woods at Sleepytime’.

Each week, we start our session in the library, listening to a short version of the story being read. We then listen to a ‘Singing Hands’ song, encouraging the pupils to use Makaton. This week, we listened to ‘Little Peter Rabbit has a fly upon his nose’. Upon our return to the classroom, the sensory version of the story is shared with the pupils.

In 'Down in the Woods at Sleepytime, Mama Rabbit is trying to encourage her bunnies to go to sleep but they continue to play peek-a-boo. The forest school rabbit came to visit and showed Hub H how to snuggle and sleep, just like Mama Rabbit wanted.

Jacob definitely enjoyed a cuddle with one of our Forest School rabbits!

Dinosaur Adventure

8P have been busy creating their own versions of Jurassic Park! As part of their adventure story topic, they designed detailed maps of their parks, focusing on exciting and interesting settings. Everyone worked hard, and the results were fantastic!

Keeping Your Child Safe

If your child is an independent traveller or spends time out in the local community without adult supervision, please make sure that they always have their fully charged mobile phone with them. Also, please remind them at regular intervals that they should not share any personal information with strangers and certainly shouldn't agree to go anywhere with a stranger. If they are ever worried while they are making their way to school or out in the local community please remind them to call you, another trusted adult in the family or School (if it is a school day). They should also be reminded if they feel really frightened or unsafe they should call the police.
