Castle Hill High School

Castle Hill Blog, 16.07.2021

A message from Mr Thomas

There's only one real piece of news at Castle Hill this week and although the staff have known for several weeks about Mr Law's decision to leave us at the end of this academic year, it will have come as quite a shock to students and their families. You will have read Mr Law's letter and I'm sure you'll want to join with me in wishing him a long, happy and healthy life away from the chalkface.

The Governing Board has begun the process of recruiting a new Headteacher and is committed to finding the very best candidate. They are hoping to interview in September, with the successful candidate joining us in January 2022. In the meantime, the Governing Board has asked me to take on the role of Acting Headteacher. Having worked at Castle Hill for 22 years and alongside Mr Law as his deputy for the past 7 of those years, please be reassured of my commitment to both the school and your child's education and welfare.

In his 14 years with us, Mr Law has made Castle Hill an outstanding school, both officially in the eyes of Ofsted, but more importantly from the point of view of the people who know us best, our students and their families. He masterminded the move to our current site in Offerton, secured our 6th Form provision and oversaw a doubling in student numbers, as the school became recognised as a centre of excellence in special needs provision. It's a legacy of which he can be extremely proud.

Mr Law would be the first to say that the key to this success has been the staff team that he has put together. It's the support of this skilled, dedicated and hardworking team that I will be relying upon over the coming term.

Every new school year brings fresh challenges, but the coming year will be a crucial one for your child as we recover from the impact which Covid has had upon learning and school life in general. Now more than ever, the home-school partnership will be key to your child's success, both in and out of the classroom, and I look forward to working with you to achieve the very best outcomes for your child.

Career change?

Many thanks to Tony and his team at P.P. O'Connor Demolition Contractors, who hosted visits to the old Offerton High demolition site this week. The students thoroughly enjoyed it and got to keep the high-vis and hard hats too!

There's a great video of one of the activities they set up for us on our Twitter page: Cones challenge

I also think we've solved the mystery of what Mr Law will do once he's left us....

It's too late for him to sack me, yes??!!!!

Have a great weekend and enjoy the sunshine!
