Fundraising

It was our annual Welly Walk today and the whole school took part. Money raised from sponsorship of this event goes to our school fund, which subsidises our end of term rewards and trips, so please give generously if you haven't done so already. I'll try to include some photos of the walk in next week's blog.

We'll be supporting Comic Relief next Friday, by having a non-uniform day. We're asking for a donation of at least £1, all the money raised will go to the good causes that Comic Relief supports at home and abroad.

We also want to do something to support the victims of the horrendous war in Ukraine, so the last day of term, Friday 1st April, will be a fundraising non-uniform day. Wearing blue and yellow, the colours of the Ukraine flag, would make it extra special.

We've talked about the war in Ukraine in assemblies and form time over the past couple of weeks. Many of the news reports on TV are inevitably distressing to watch. If you're worried about the effect of this on your child, or aren't sure how to reassure them, then CBBC Newsround offer some great advice, which you can access by clicking on this link:

Work Experience

We try to ensure that every Year 11 student takes part in a one week work experience placement. This helps to give students a taste of what the world of work is really like and prepares them for life after school and college. Many of our students return from their work experience placements far more focused on their studies, because they can see what all the hard work in school is leading too.

Unfortunately, this year we are struggling to find placements. If you or someone you know has a business, or works for a company, that would be willing to offer a placement to one of our Year 11 students from 25th - 29th April, please phone or email our careers lead, Miss Wheeler: rhian.wheeler@castlehill.stockport.sch.uk

World Maths Day

World Maths Day is fast approaching, and to celebrate our maths teaching and learning we are inviting parents and carers or Year 7 and 8 students into school on the afternoon of Wednesday 23rd March 2022.
This session will run from 1.30 - 2:40pm , with the option to stay until 3.30pm. It will involve a short presentation on how we teach maths at Castle Hill followed by an introduction to the ICT maths programme, Mathletics. Students will then join the session and you can enjoy time exploring the Mathletics programme with your child, competing with your child against players all over the world.
Following this, there will be an opportunity to look at students' books to see their amazing progress and ask their maths teacher any questions.
You'll receive a text message next week asking if you'd like to take part. If you can't make it your child will follow their normal afternoon timetable.

Have a great weekend!
