Castle Hill High School

Castle Hill Blog 08/09/23

Good afternoon! A very warm welcome to the start of what will no doubt be another fabulous year ahead here at Castle Hill. It has been a delightful week filled with enthusiasm towards learning and a real buzz of excitement from pupils and staff to be back in school.

RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete)

I am sure that many of you will have seen in the news that some schools have had to close due to the presence of RAAC. I can confirm that our school has been surveyed and is consistent with the comment below:

"In line with Department of Education guidance we have surveyed all our directly controlled schools built or extended between 1950s and 1990s and none are affected."

Tim Bowman, Director of Education.

Uniform

Thank you to all of you for sending your child in with the correct uniform. We have worked hard to create a policy that takes into consideration cost and comfort. Please can I politely request that you do not send your child in jogging bottoms. If they have sensory issues, please have a chat with your child's form tutor to ensure that we can find a suitable solution. I really do appreciate your support.

Safe Parking

When dropping off and collecting, please only park in a clearly marked bay. If there are no spaces left, please use the overflow car park which is situated on the old Life Leisure site. The safety of our pupils must take precedence over everything. Thank you!

After School Clubs

I am pleased to inform you that we have a good variation of after school clubs and activities to offer your child. You will receive additional letters and communication regarding these in the coming weeks.

Enjoying Classic Literature

Our GCSE classes have started exploring Victorian literature through, ‘Great Expectations’ and have been drawing their own marshes to reflect Dickens’ description (photo below of Joe Murphy's drawing).

And here's one of our Year 8's devouring his favourite book in the library!
