Castle Hill Blog 06/03/26
As I started to prepare for my assemblies next week and the possible themes I could explore, I reflected on just how lucky we are in this school to have such fantastic literacy and reading resources. This includes the imaginative and dedicated staff members. From our well stocked library with its colourful and welcoming relaxation spaces to the comprehensive and precisely organised reading scheme texts. Every effort is made in our school to promote a genuine love of reading from the sensory story sacks to the dedicated daily reading time for all pupils. We have also been developing our range of reading texts to convey a broader and more inclusive picture of cultures and beliefs.
Windrush Generation
This term Year 8 are reading ‘Coming to England’, Floella Benjamin’s family leaves Trinidad for Britain, where she faces cold weather, racism, and culture shock but grows in confidence, resilience, and hope as part of the Windrush generation.

Mrs Phillips one of our wonderful Maths teachers, kindly shared some traditional Trinidadian food as we discussed the Windrush Era. Pupils had the opportunity to taste or smell foods such as chickpea & potato curry with roti, chicken and pilau rice, custard apples, coconut cake and various fruit and veg.

In the afternoon, the pupils acted out the moment when Floella Benjamin left Trinidad and travelled by boat to England, imagining what the 15-day journey might have been like.

World Book Day Fun
A massive thank you to everyone who made yesterday's World Book Day another fantastic memorable event! Staff worked tirelessly to ensure that there was a range of accessible activities for pupils to enjoy including musical story telling workshops, a book treasure hunt and door dressing activities. I hope your young person enjoyed it.

Imperial War Museum Year 11
Year 11’s studying History had a fantastic trip to the Imperial War Museum in Manchester. They confidently navigated the trains and the tram to get there and represented the school brilliantly throughout the day. Inside the museum, they explored powerful exhibitions on conflict, empire, and the impact of war on ordinary people, linking what they saw to their GCSE studies. Staff at the museum praised them for their excellent behaviour, insightful ideas, and impressive historical knowledge.
