Castle Hill High School

Castle Hill Blog 05/07/24

At Castle Hill, our curriculum places a strong emphasis on life skills alongside academic achievements. Our Year 9 pupils have been learning some vital life saving skills this week in first aid workshops such as the recovery position, treating someone who is choking and providing CPR.

Accessibility

As part of our whole school Identity and Diversity training, all staff were asked to consider the term 'privilege'. Most of us are likely to take certain aspects of our day to day existence for granted. One of those aspects might be that we don't have to consider whether we can gain access to a place that we really want to visit. We might not have to worry about whether there is a suitable toilet we can use, if there is enough space to manoeuvre once we are inside and if there is a lift if we need to go upstairs. Some organisations are finally starting to take these matters seriously; 8S pupils have been invited to try out some museums in Stockport and provide feedback on their accessibility. There first venue was Bramhall Hall which I believe got a thumbs up from the class!

Summer Digital Festival

The festival is a fun space where children can learn new skills and socialise during summer holidays. Come along and learn how to make a vlog, remix your favourite song and even create your own badge.  Register and find out more on Family Fund’s website www.familyfund.org.uk/discoverdigitalfestival

The Hungry Caterpillar

In Mrs Smolka's Drama classes with HUB M and HUB R they have been working on the Hungry Caterpillar story this half term. Both classes have created their own set design and puppet props and this week for our the final lesson we had a food tasting session. All pupils participated and seemed to really enjoy the experience!

Summer Fair!

It's the biggest and best fundraiser of the year, a wonderful chance to have lots of fun with your family and friends and support our school to continue to offer exciting rewards, educational visits and residentials.

A Fond Farewell!

On Wednesday, Castle Hill Sixth Form staff and students said goodbye and good luck to our amazing Year 14 Pre-Interns, some of whom have been part of the Castle Hill family for 8 years!

They started their celebrations this week with a day out together, to make some great final lasting memories with each other. The big goodbye ended on Wednesday with an opportunity to be all together for one last time for a farewell meal in the evening. A good time was had by all and many happy memories were made.

Everyone at Castle Hill wishes all our amazing Pre-Intern leavers the very best for their futures.
