Castle Hill High School

Castle Hill Blog 03/05/2026

Yesterday we had our annual governor's day and I couldn't have been prouder to share with them the amazing achievements of our staff and pupils. They were treated to a grand tour, presentations from our subject leaders and an open forum to speak with a number of pupils across the school. They were extremely impressed with everything that they saw and wanted to thank all of our teachers and pupils for all that they do to make our school community such a wonderful place to be.

We also said an extremely emotional goodbye to our longstanding and highly dedicated chair of governors, Bevon Blackwood. To mark the incredible contribution he has made to the school we will be refurbishing our school gym which will include a plaque of honour in his name. We hope that he will be able to make the grand reopening when it is finished.

It's a Bug's Life!

8S have been learning about animal habitats and adaptations in Science. Pupils have been studying different bugs and observing the features that help them survive in their environments. They have looked closely at how insects use colour, shape and behaviour to stay safe, find food and live successfully in their surroundings.

Handy Directions!

In Maths this week, 8S have been learning about direction and position. Today we focused on understanding right and left. Pupils drew an L and an R on their hands to help them remember and used this to practise giving and following directions.

Exploring Fairtrade and Where Our Food Comes From

Poppy came to brighten my Friday to tell me all about her lesson in the vocation centre. She brought this beautiful picture to show me and then explained that she had been learning about the importance of Fairtrade. Well done Poppy!

Time for Fun!

If you walked past our classrooms this week, you might have heard cheering, music and plenty of dancing. To finish our work on telling the time, we swapped worksheets for a lively Maths Bingo session.

We wanted pupils to see that learning maths can be enjoyable. The game mixed key skills with music, movement and friendly competition, keeping everyone focused and excited for the next clue.

Using sound, visuals and physical activity helped pupils stay engaged and support one another. Research shows that linking movement and positive emotion to learning strengthens memory, and our Bingo session helped pupils build confidence with time-telling.

Congratulations to all of our winners, and well done to the whole class for showing great teamwork and strong maths skills.

Ask your child what they enjoyed most and let them test your clock-reading skills at home.

Whole School Approach to Mental Health and Wellbeing

We are currently working with Claire Gwyer (Public Health Advisor for Children and Young People) on a Whole School Approach to Mental Health and Wellbeing.

This means we are looking at how every part of school life can support the mental health and wellbeing of the whole school community, including pupils, staff and parents and carers.

They will be speaking to pupils, teachers and governors and would like to get your views as parents/carers too.

It would be great to get the views of as many parents/carers as possible. All responses are anonymous and you do not have to give your name
Please complete this online questionnaire: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/ScB8637Sc2 . You can also email claire.gwyer@stockport.gov.uk

Claire will then work with the school to address any issues raised, any improvements or suggestions and these will form part of our development plan for next year.

And Finally...

It's arrived...the event of the year, bigger and better and more fun  than ever. It's our Summer Fair! This year promises not to disappoint with the addition of lots of fun games outside on the lawn for all the family. We've also got a bouncy castle to enjoy. Join us from 10am-12pm tomorrow!

See You in the Morning!
