Friday has positively zoomed around this week and there's a lot to celebrate...Alton Towers staff have commented on the exceptional behaviour of our Year 9 pupils who have participated in the residential visits. A delightful Year 10 pupil made me a mouthwatering quiche lorraine. I toe-tapped to bagpipes in my office at break time treated to demi-Lea's musical talents.
AND two pupils who are deaf led the assemblies this week to raise the profile of hearing awareness across the school. They had researched and created a really interesting presentation, they also showed great bravery in standing up in front of everyone!
Do Sport Challenge!
An incredible Year 7 pupil, April Hough, joined several of the FBA girls last Sunday to take part in a huge fundraising challenge supporting Do Sport UK. This organisation provides weekly inclusive sessions for children and adults who rely on them. Together, they pushed through an ambitious goal of covering 200 miles on the court while aiming for 10,000 baskets, all to help keep these vital sessions running.
For April, this cause is personal. She trains and plays with two teams every week, and her mum reports that basketball has transformed her physical and mental wellbeing. Over the past four years she has grown in confidence, found a place where she feels accepted, and discovered just how far she can go.
Do Sport UK continues to make that possible by building social connections, promoting inclusion and improving health and wellbeing for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Their work creates opportunities, friendships and a sense of belonging both on and off the court.
